Steam Synthetic Wig

Posted on April 06 2018

I’m sure that you’ve heard by now that steaming your hair can afford you all kinds of benefits. Did you know that it's possible to steam your wigs? Yes, ladies. There is a nifty new product on the market called a wig steamer, and it can quickly become your best friend. No matter if you have a human hair wig or a synthetic wig, a wig steamer can bring life to your unit without you having to continuously replace your old ones. Still need a little more convincing on why you should be investing in a wig steamer? Keeping reading to find out the benefits of using a wig steamer for your synthetic wig.

Steam Synthetic Wig

Wig Steamers Eliminates Frizz

The most important think that your wig steamer can do for your synthetic wig is eliminate frizz. Ladies, you know what we’re talking about. How often have you had to toss out a curly synthetic wig because it just got too ratty looking and you had no other choice? Well, a wig steamer will take care of the frizz problem that you’re experiencing and allow you to hold on to your synthetic wig units just a little bit longer.

Wig Steamer Allows for More Versatility

Now, this is another biggie for those who like to wear synthetic wigs. When you get a synthetic wig, you can often be confined to one hairstyle at a time. Why? Most of the time, a synthetic wig cannot have excess heat because it will cause the hair to burn. Remember, synthetic hair isn’t human, so it’s much more susceptible to burning up. Also, the texture can turn crunchy. With a wig steamer, you actually have a few other options as far as your hair style is concerned. When used correctly, a hair steamer can straighten your curly hair. If used another way, your hair steamer can even curl a synthetic wig. Sounds pretty neat, right? Allow me to bring it home for you: a synthetic wig is best for those of us who are on a budget, and want to revive a beautiful hair piece. Have I got your attention yet?

How to Use Wig Steamer

Before trying to manipulate your synthetic wig, we recommend that you wash it first with a synthetic wig shampoo. As the name implies, a synthetic wig shampoo is best for those that are using a synthetic unit because the formula is not as harsh as typically hair shampoos. If you’re trying to straighten the hair, then you’ll need to use a fine-tooth comb and move the hand in a downward motion while steaming. Be careful to not let the steam remain in one place for longer than 2-3 seconds. That’s all it takes for it to burn! If you want to curl straight hair, the best option is to put rollers in prior to steaming, steam while rollers are still in hair, then allow to completely cool before removing. It may help to add a dash of heat protectant to the hair to keep it in place.

    Hi Karen!
There are many different kinds of wig steamers, ranging from $50-$200. Ebay has some good deals on wig steamers sometimes, so you might want to check that out!
    Hope this helps… happy Monday!

Hi, I was told a regular steamer is just as good, i did go on Amazon and they have a Jon Renau steamer specifically made for synthetic hair but it’s $90.00. Where else would you find steamers for wig? I have had luck with the little travel steamer, i have used.

    Zebbie,
You should be able to get a wig steamer online (Amazon). We wouldn’t recommend using a regular steamer. Youtube is a great resource and has videos on steaming wigs. You can fluff up the bangs using your fingers or styling product such as hairspray. Depending on the type of fiber it is (synthetic or human hair) you would want to use product specific to that piece.

    Happy Tuesday!

Where do I buy a wig steamer? Can I use a regular steamer? Is there a video to show how to use the steamer? I bought a wig that has bangs and the bangs are very flat on my forehead and so it looks very fake. Naturally the bangs of the hair would look better if the hair was a little bit fluffier
